July 15, 2012: Fran and Ed dropped Benton and I off at Echo Lake. We got a late start, only going 10 miles today. We're entering the Desolation Sound Wilderness Area, the area where my Granddad George was able to do a 10 day hiking retreat. According to Fran, he loved his trip and always wanted to go back. It's a little like Benton and I are going back for him, or even a little like we're all hiking together. George died when I was only three so I don't remember him well but I'm thinking a lot about him throughout this part of the PCT, knowing he was enchanted with Desolation.
